odysseus the line cook au
odysseus is a line cook, 40 years old, hasnt gotten a promotion in the decade hes worked there
coworker is diomedes, fresh(ish) out of culinary school, head chef , 27
odysseus is not very fond of this fact
its a fine dining restaurant, they do not act like it is.
boss is circe who cannot stand any of them,
their manager is hermes, he is chill with everything going on, doesnt really care as long as the kitchen is clean and they get dishes out. too busy smoking weed. could of had his own restaurant but didnt want the responsibility
married to penelope whos a professor in textile materials and technology, busy teaching and grading papers usually.
odysseus and diomedes have a very weird hot work situationship, his wife is very okay with it. odysseus is in love with him
theyre just bros, its not gay to fuck in the walk in freezer
what they do depends on the day and how much they can get away with.
penelope actually wants diomedes to move in so he 1. pays bills 2. she can pawn telemachus onto him 3. wants to know whats up
odysseus chain smokes on his break. he desperately wants to quit because his wife thinks its kind of gross and second hand smoke but he just cant kick the habit
lives in an apartment complex, absolute girlfailure.
poor relationship with father, could of been the greatest nepo baby but dropped out of his degree in commerce to go to culinary school
THIEF AND A LIAR
house is filled with equipment from his work, biggest thing hes stolen is a stand mixer that he convinced circe he threw out because it was broken. everything in his fridge is stored in a stolen quart container
doesnt steal any produce because he thinks its poor quality
ACTIVELY HATES CUSTOMERS
if diomedes wasn't there odysseus would be spitting in peoples food (he does it if the customers piss him off enough and if diomedes isnt looking)
maternal family has mob connections that he doesnt use (he can do it on his own)
on his off day he likes to bbq on his balcony to the displeasure of all his neighbours. hangs out with his son too
#odydio#odysseus#diomedes#penelope#tagamemnon#linecook au#i guess im the guy for this now#me and my gc came up with this together#s/o to eli mars and scan#n.txt#we all just LOVE odysseus#the king of ithaca is a girlfailure#i might actually have to write this now#we actually talked about this while two of them played valorant of all fucking games

This is what happened after 3.1 isn't it?

Shipping EuryOdyPoliPen as the silliest polycule to ever grace this earth, Odysseus and Polites started dating first and they both had this big fat crush on Eurylochus but neither of them ever said anything.
Then Odysseus meets Penelope because he’s the king of Ithaca and needs to get married to a girl and he’s like “Woahhh what a woman she’s so smart and pretty she should murder or kiss me” but Penelope does not fall for Odysseus first, instead she sees Polites and is instantly head over heels because he’s sweet and charming and then eventually they all end up dating, I just know Penelope would fall for Odysseus because he does something massively stupid while trying to be smart and she’s like “never mind I want them both”
She and Ody get married but are both still dating Polites while having to hide it from the rest of the kingdom (it’s highly obvious and nobody cares)
And then Ctimene is about to marry Eurylochus but she is very much aware Eury is destined to become apart of the polycule, so literally on her wedding day she jokes to Odysseus about “stealing his second husband” Ctimene is our AroAce Queen though so she does not care at all, but it would catch Eury and Ody off guard so much and she would relish in that
But also thinking about Penelope had three husbands go to war and the only one who returned alive has his heart still out at sea somewhere
But yes EuryOdyPoliPen <3

Odysseus with his head in his wife's lap, happily not paying attention to anything, humming one of athenas song and carving something

Fascinating how Polites, the character who is the personification of Odysseus' optimism and is only in 5 songs, is more grieved and appreciated than Eurylochus, a character who is his own person and is in 11 songs.
#I'm being a hater but meh :/ it's just kind of baffling to me. Don't get me wrong. Polites plays his purpose for the musical#and it is neat how Jay took one line from him in the Odyssey and got silly with it and basically created his own character.#but like... All we know about Polites is that he's nice... that's literally it. He's Odysseus' optimism personified. which is why he died.#And it's not as though it isn't sad that he died. It's just that we got to know Eurylochus longer and truly get to know him more#is it because with how little people know about Polites other than “uwu sweetiepie” people like that so they can headcanon more?#is it because Eurylochus is “too complex” and therefore “not likable”??#idk. I'm gonna be burned at the stake for this I know it. but I don't understand it.#like during “Love in Paradise” it wasn't “Open Arms” that made me sad. It was “How much longer...” and “Waiting...” that made me sad#I mean I'm an “UwU sweetiepie” too (not right now though clearly lol) so maybe I'm “meh” about him because he's just “me”?#Mad rambles#shot by odysseus#epic the musical#polites#eurylochus#hm. maybe I shouldn't tag this but I'm actually really kind of curious as to why people cling to him so much?

How much stuff from the Homer should we keep in our vision of the Trojan War story?
Do we keep everything Iliadic and Odyssean here? Do we retain every event, every detail, despite the fact that some of them contradict other traditions? Or should we change something to adapt other accounts, or should we try to find a reconciliation in-between?
Do we omit Palamedes in our telling of the recruitment of Odysseus so the ones being rude were just the Atreïda, or do we go with the Cypria as well as other sources where Odysseus faked his madness and got exposed by Palamedes?
Do we have Achilles and Patroclus in Phthia joining the war eagerly, or do we have Odysseus using the trick to find out Achilles in disguise hiding in Skyros?
Do we have Achilles leading the Achaeans to plunder around before reaching Troy, or do we have a storm scattering the fleet so that each king returned to his own kingdom while Achilles came to Skyros and married Deïdameia there?
Do we have Achilles being able to bleed in battle, or do we make him invincible other than his infamous heels?
Do we have Astyanax as Hector’s only son, or do we allow the existence of another son—Laodamas—to live even longer by his mother’s side?
Do we have Anticleia dying of mostly old age and sadness, or do we have Nauplius bringing false news to Anticleia, causing her to hang herself?
Do we hold Aegisthus responsible for the seduction of Clytemnestra and the death of Agamemnon and Cassandra, or do we have Clytemnestra orchestrating it, and give her an axe to deal the death blow?
Do we have other Achaeans returning and staying home safe from war and sea, or do we have the most of them wandering still to found many cities in places like Italy?
Do we find Neoptolemus staying in Phthia waiting to marry Hermione, or do we see him reigning over in Epirus?
Do we know Aegialeia as the faithful wife who’d tear for her husband in her empty bed, or do we see her as the queen who betrayed her king upon his return, for reasons up to interpretation?
Do we have Diomedes reaching home safe and sound, or do we need him exiled to Italy so he could start founding cities?
Do we keep Odysseus’s journey in mythical islands and seas, or do we have him wandering in Italy (even to Iberia) like others, founding cities and leaving some tombs of his crewmates behind?
Do we agree that the Telemachy took place in Pylos and Sparta, or do we find Telemachus going to Crete to see Idomeneus?
Do we follow Homer’s claim that Odysseus’s lineage was a line of single sons, or do we consider Telemachus’s statement here merely dramatic thus allowing all those other “sons of Odysseus” to exist?
Do we agree that there were no Nausithous or Nausinous, or do we have Odysseus leaving them both behind on Ogygia forever?
Do we know Penelope as the loyal wife that she was, or do we find her consorting with one or more suitors resulting in the birth of Pan?
Do we have Odysseus and Penelope reuniting by each other’s side at last, or do we see Odysseus exiling Penelope because of her “disloyalty”, so that she wandered in Lacedaemonia and Arcadia to Mantineia where she finally died?
Do we have Athena and Zeus intervening in the fight between Odysseus’s household and the suitors’ family to establish an everlasting peace, or do we leave this matter to Neoptolemus’s hands just to see Odysseus exiled?
Do we make him finish his oar quest and return immediately, or do we keep him in Thesprotia where he marries another woman and had another son and fought another war and returned again?
Do we agree that Telegonus wouldn’t exist, or do we have him stabbing Odysseus marrying Penelope giving his mother Circe to Telemachus to wed?
Do we give Odysseus a peaceful death from the sea, or do we not?
#we love Homer—to what extent? Which detail would you keep in your head and which one would you not?#these are just questions; and I’m curious to hear yall’s answers#you can find all of these in different ancient sources btw#tagamemnon#greek mythology#the iliad#the odyssey#homer’s iliad#homer’s odyssey#the epic cycle#trojan war#lyculī quaestiōnēs#achilles#odysseus#penelope#aegialea#diomedes#clytemnestra#idomeneus

Okay- the community has spoken that Trans Telemachus is very much being supported here and a fun possible head cannon for a lot of people
But the question is, is Telemachus Trans fem or Trans masc??
(I’ve seen a lot of votes for Trans masc and Odysseus fucking up the sirens for misgendering his son. But I’ve also seen arguments for Trans fem Telemachus as when Odysseus comes home, she comes out to her dad)
#This is all silly#Not an actual competition#Just being a little silly billy#epic the musical#telemachus epic the musical#trans telemachus real??#trans telemachus#God damn it now I want to write a fanfic of trans fem Telemachus coming out to Odysseus-#I want people to fight on this#Be oh so serious#Defend your answer to the death#But also we are all very supportive here#And we all love and support Tele and the trans community either way :)#Neither trans fem nor trans masc is better#we love and support them equally#And they’re both just as valid all the same#This is all just for shits and giggles

Everyone says that Not Sorry For Loving You is sad, and yeah I see it, but personally I think Charydbis is sadder.
Just hearing Odysseus sing how he’s holding on, even years later. Twenty years later and he’s still holding on. Still waiting to get home to see his wife and son. And at the end when he finally sees Ithaca again he sounds so sad, but hopeful. He’s home finally and tells Penelope to hold on for him. He’s finally coming home. But then heartbreak again when Poseidon shows up.
The whole thing just makes me sad because all he’s wanted since the beginning was to go home. To see his wife and now it’s all for nothing when Poseidon comes again.
All in all though both songs are amazing. They all are.
#epic the musical#epic poseidon#epic odysseus#epic charybdis#epic not sorry for loving you#epic vengeance saga#We don’t have to worry#he goes crazy and stabs Poseidon#so it’s all gonna be fine 🙃#I’m not that good at writing my thoughts on things but I just needed to get this out

I wish someone had told me that the return's version of penelope thinks the horrors are horrifying. trigger warning: no one thinks murder's fun in this 😢
#fooled by a gifset again 😔 when will I learn#but anyway it wasn't even just penelope it was everything. literally disliked every minute.#everything that makes the odyssey and odypen and odysseus fun to me just wasn't there at all#the point it clearly tried to make really wasn't that deep AND it was made with 0 subtlety. pick a struggle#I even hated the bed! and I always LOVE the bed! wdym you made it so unappealing to me I didn't even feel anything#anyway. it's fine I'll just re-(re-re-re-)read again even though we know love's landscape ☺️#mine

bothers me a bit when i is see comments comparing epic's!odysseus to hamilton when it comes cheating. 'oh hamilton could have learned a thing or two'. hamilton was a real person and he was our first american sex scandal. all those men were cheating and he was the one that got caught. a musical based on his life would be dishonest if it cut that huge thing out.
the odyssey however...in the epic poem based on greek mythology (and u know, fiction) homer's odysseus did in fact cheat on penelope with circe. he and his crew were voluntarily on her island for a year. it's just that it wasn't seen as a big deal in ancient greece bc of the misogyny, sexism and double standards.
but bc epic is a retelling for a modern audience, he doesn't cheat. his entire motivation revolves around the love he has for his wife and son. if he cheated in this retelling, modern audiences wouldn't root for him. they wouldn't care. it's fine that its been changed bc he's not a real person. (but he did cheat).
#now the calypso thing...........he did Not want to be stuck on that island for 7 years#that was not his choice#hence the crying on the beach everyday#homer's odysseus still loves his wife and does want to go home but he was unfaithful (with circe) ( i stress )#epic's song 'there are other ways' even slightly implies he would if he could#'who's to say with all the mistakes ive made that they will be the last i ever make'#'im just a man'\'forgive me'\'i CAN'T'#he thought about it and said 'no penelope is all my power'#which i think is a nice link to the original source#he thinks about it but he doesn't act on it#audience can still root for him#mind you audience is still entertained when hamilton cheats bc we love mess#and we love the performance of Burn that follows it#sorry this has been bothering me for days

From what I understood of a two hour mutual infodump (I received kratos: god of war lore, he received greek myths)
Kratos is god of war bc he killed Ares (and a lot of other people/gods).
In better news no one is gonna tell the gods about this fuckup of a post bc you’ve assigned Hermes to a comedy club instead of his usual messages lol
this website’s easy watch. *dangles a bunch of greek gods like keys*
#i will put rest of ramble in notes bc you’ve probably already got 10 versions of it#but I love mythology and you did dangle greek gods in front of us like keys#ok starting with homer and did he exist#nobody knows who or how many people homer was ‘homer’ is the name given to the guy(s) who wrote the iliad and odyssey down#in like the 7th century bc ish#bc for the previous few centuries we forgot how to write so those poems had been memorised and passed down orally#my personal favourite theory about ‘homer’ is that the epic poems were in fact written by a group of storytellers#who got together and used their combined knowledge/versions to create the most cohesive version#but yeah we know fuck all#odysseus was also not a god he was a greek hero#he features in both the illiad and (obviously) the odyssey i could talk about him a lot more but gonna move on#pluto/hades are both god of the underworld and the same guy#it’s just that the romans badly copy pasted the greek gods to get their own pantheon hence new name#Hephaestus in indeed a god of fire and of metalwork and the forge#he does live inside a big fuck off volcano which is occasionally thought to be mt etna#hermes: messenger god and also of travellers and thieves#had lots of little statues called herms to help direct travelled and most of the statues had phallueses on#hermes actually bears more similarity to thor’s dad (odin) than zeus does#(hermes and odin both like lying a lot lol as does odysseus for that matter)#zeus is indeed god of the sky in general and his favourite weapon is lightning#he is also king of the gods his most well known brothers are posidon and hades and his wife is hera (goddess of marrige and also his sister)#and yeah not nordic that’s odin#poseidon is spot on and fun fact he’s also god of horses bc why the fuck not i guess#already covered hephaestus#aphrodite is yeah goddesses of love and beauty so da hot one sums it up well#ares and athena are the main war gods#ares more of the bloody vicious side and athena more of the actual tactics and how to win#hades does rule the underworld (aka hades realm aka hades)#ok last tag apollo started as god of plague and then medicine and then archery and prophecy and yk what fuck it he’s god of the sun too#kratos apparently is a god but of strength not war
